The court has acquitted popular actress Mehjabeen Chowdhury and her brother Alishan Chowdhury in a case filed on charges of threats and intimidation. Dhaka District Administration Executive Magistrate Md. Adnan Zulfikar gave the order after hearing the case on Monday (January 12) morning.
According to the case source, Mehjabeen Chowdhury took advantage of her long-standing acquaintance with the plaintiff and took a total of 2.7 million taka in cash and bKash by tempting her to hire her in a new family business. However, the defendants repeatedly delayed asking for the money back as they failed to start the business.
Later, when she went to ask for the money on the afternoon of February 11, they ordered her to come to a restaurant near Hatirjheel Road on March 16. When they arrived at the scene that day, Mehjabeen, her brother and 4-5 other unidentified people abused and threatened to kill the plaintiff.
However, based on the primary evidence in the case, the court found that there was not enough evidence in the charges against the defendants.
